From past editions, we already knew that
contactless is not all about technology or
business models. This year, regarding the
pivotal "user experience", it has become
clear for the Congress participants that the
contactless experience is part of a wider trend,
the "mobile proximity services". And this new
way to interact with the digital world involves
the whole mobile ecosystem, through whatever
technology, NFC-based or not. This is also the
scope of the conference.
The m-payment industry giants
speaking at the Congress were fully in line
with this positioning. In his keynote, James
Davlouros, Vice President Global Strategic
Alliances MasterCard Worldwide, pointed out
that NFC entails not only payment but also
marketing services, personal communications,
etc. brought by mobile. He also gave promising
figures about NFC payment market: in 2016,
85% of POS terminal and 300 millions mobile
phones NFC-enabled!
